Permanent Tourist is my first-ever comedy special. It’s about growing up between cultures, dealing with expectations, and trying to find my place when everyone keeps asking me to pick a side. I’ll be talking about identity, family, relationships, and what it’s like to feel like a visitor in my own life. There’ll be stand-up, personal stories, crowdwork, original songs, musical parodies, fully dramatic nonsense, and some surprise guests. This is a comedy show for anyone who feels like they don’t belong. I promise, it’s not a TED Talk. ABOUT ME I’m Joel Chinta. An Indian, comedian and storyteller based in Brunei. I’ve been doing stand-up for 3 years, but I’ve been making people laugh all my life, my mother was my first audience, and my father was my first heckler. I have done a lot of things in comedy, music, theatre, film and this is my first comedy special.
